Mushroom Farm CO2 Controller with Remote Monitoring: Watch Every Growing Room from Your Phone
If you own a mushroom farm, you already know the hardest part is not the compost or the spawn. It is what happens in the growing rooms when you are not there: at night, on a market day, or while you are at your second farm 40 km away. A fan trips, a door is left open, the AC stops after a power cut, and by the time anyone notices, a flush has already suffered.
This guide is for farm owners looking to buy a CO2 controller for a mushroom farm that does two jobs: it switches the fresh-air or exhaust fan automatically, and it lets you see every room’s CO2, temperature and humidity on your mobile phone or computer, from anywhere. It covers what goes wrong when nobody is watching, how to read a room from its graph, what to check before you buy, and the price of equipping a whole farm.
Looking for the right CO2 level at each growth stage instead? Read our companion guide, how VentPlus helps mushroom farms get better yields, which covers stage-wise CO2, temperature and humidity and a full farm equipment checklist.
What Goes Wrong in a Mushroom Room When Nobody Is Watching
A button, oyster or milky mushroom room can go from healthy to damaged in a few hours. Almost every common problem shows up first as a change in CO2, temperature or humidity:
- Fresh-air fan stops (tripped MCB, loose plug, burnt capacitor). CO2 climbs past your limit and keeps climbing. Mushrooms grow long stems and small caps.
- Door left open after picking. CO2 falls to outside level, temperature rises and humidity drops. The casing dries out.
- AC or AHU fails, or does not restart after a power cut. Temperature drifts up and pinning is disturbed.
- Over-ventilation in winter. The fan runs far longer than needed, cooling the room and wasting heating energy.
- Supervisor runs the fan “by feel”. Different every shift, and you only find out at harvest.
None of these can be seen from your house. A phone call to the supervisor tells you what they think is happening. A reading tells you what is actually happening.
What Remote Monitoring Gives a Mushroom Farm Owner
The VentPlus CO2 Monitor & Controller sends its readings over your farm Wi-Fi to the VentPlus monitoring website. You open it in the browser of any phone, tablet or computer. There is no app to install, and the same screen works on mobile and desktop.

- Live CO2, temperature and humidity for every room, so you can check the farm from home, from the mandi or while travelling.
- Fan ON/OFF history. You can see exactly when the fan ran and for how long. This is proof that ventilation actually happened, not just that someone says it did.
- Last 1 year of records, downloadable as an Excel file. Keep one file per crop cycle and compare a good flush with a poor one.
- Remote monitoring free for 1 year from the date of purchase of the Main Unit.
- All your rooms on one screen. Every VentPlus unit on your farm appears on the same monitoring website.
- Fewer phone calls, better questions. Instead of “is everything fine?”, you can ask “why did Room 3 cross 1,500 ppm at 2 a.m.?”
Fan switching itself is done by the unit, using the upper and lower CO2 limits you set on its front panel. For example, the fan turns ON above 1,000 ppm and OFF at 800 ppm during cropping. Remote monitoring is what lets you check that it is working, from anywhere.
How to Read a Mushroom Room from Its CO2 Graph
Once you can see the graph, most problems are easy to recognise. These are the four patterns farm owners learn first:
A steady sawtooth
CO2 rises to your upper limit, the fan switches ON, CO2 falls to the lower limit and the fan switches OFF. Regular, even teeth mean the room is under control.
CO2 keeps rising while the fan is ON
The fan is running but not removing enough CO2. The usual causes are an undersized fan, a choked filter, a blocked inlet or a heavier crop load than the fan was sized for.
CO2 high and flat, fan OFF
The controller should have switched the fan on and did not, or the fan is not connected. Check the limits set on the front panel, the plug and the fan supply.
Sudden CO2 drop with temperature rise
Outside air is entering the room, usually a door left open or a gap in the panels. Humidity falling at the same time confirms it.

One Owner, Many Rooms: Monitoring a Multi-Room or Multi-Site Farm
Each growing room is at its own stage and has its own CO2 level, so a farm needs one CO2 controller per growing room. With remote monitoring, ten rooms are as easy to check as one:
- Compare rooms side by side. If Room 2 needs twice as much fan time as Room 4 for the same stage, look at its fan, filter and door seals.
- Check Wi-Fi inside every room before installing. Insulated PUF panel rooms block Wi-Fi strongly. A Wi-Fi extender in the corridor usually solves it.
- Your router decides how many units can connect. VentPlus sets no limit of its own. For a large farm, a bigger router lets more units join.
- Fan far from the sensor? The optional VentPlus Wi-Fi Relay Unit switches a second fan elsewhere in the building in step with the Main Unit, with no long cable run.

Buying a CO2 Controller for a Mushroom Farm: What to Check
Before you buy any CO2 controller for mushroom growing rooms, check these points. They decide whether it keeps working in a humid, high-CO2 room for years:
| Check | Why it matters | VentPlus |
|---|---|---|
| NDIR CO2 sensor | Cheap “air quality” sensors estimate CO2 and drift. NDIR measures it. | Industrial NDIR, 400–5,000 ppm, ±(50 ppm + 5% of reading) |
| Humidity rating | Cropping rooms run at 85–95% RH. | Rated up to 95% RH |
| Automatic fan control | A meter alone only tells you there is a problem. | Built-in fan socket, ON/OFF at your set limits |
| Fan rating | Must match the fan you will connect. | Socket 3A / 700W; special build with relay output for large fans via contactor, on request |
| Remote monitoring | You cannot stand in every room. | Phone, tablet or computer, no app needed |
| Records and export | To compare crop cycles and find causes. | Last 1 year, Excel download, fan ON/OFF history; remote monitoring free for 1 year from purchase |
| Temperature and humidity | Many CO2 problems are really door, AC or fogger problems. | Measured and logged with CO2 |
| Service and support | Imported units are hard to get repaired. | Designed and made in Meerut, India |
A note on range: during spawn run and case run, button mushroom rooms often sit above 5,000 ppm, and VentPlus shows 5,000+ there. The control work that decides yield happens in pinning and cropping, at roughly 800–1,000 ppm, well inside the sensor’s range.
Need to see the actual CO2 level during spawn run and case run? A 400–10,000 ppm model of VentPlus is also available. Call +91 95680 04455 or contact us for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check my mushroom room CO2 level on my mobile phone?
Yes. VentPlus sends CO2, temperature and humidity readings over Wi-Fi to the VentPlus monitoring website, which you open in the browser of any phone, tablet or computer. No app installation is needed.
What is the price of a CO2 controller for a mushroom farm?
The VentPlus CO2 Monitor & Controller Main Unit costs ₹8,499 including GST, with free shipping across India. The optional Wi-Fi Relay Unit for a second fan costs ₹2,499. A farm needs one Main Unit per growing room; call +91 95680 04455 for multi-unit pricing.
Does VentPlus send WhatsApp or SMS alerts?
Not at present. You check the readings, records and fan ON/OFF history on the monitoring website. If alerts matter to your farm, tell us how you would like to receive them using the form on this page. We are collecting growers’ requirements for the next versions.
Who switches the fan if I am not watching the dashboard?
The VentPlus unit itself. It switches the fan ON above the upper CO2 limit and OFF at the lower limit, both set on its front panel. Remote monitoring lets you check that it is working from anywhere.
Can VentPlus run a large exhaust fan?
A fan of up to 3A / 700W plugs directly into the unit’s socket. For larger fans, a special build with a relay output that switches the fan contactor is available on request. Please call us before ordering.
How many CO2 controllers does a mushroom farm need?
One per growing room, because each room is at its own stage and has its own CO2 level. All units appear together on one monitoring website.
Is VentPlus suitable for oyster and milky mushroom rooms?
Yes, for monitoring and fresh-air control during fruiting, when CO2 is kept low. The standard VentPlus reads up to 5,000 ppm and shows 5,000+ above that, so very high CO2 during spawn run is shown as 5,000+. A 400–10,000 ppm model is also available; contact us for details.
